Ultra Modern: Sydney + Elliot’s Contemporary Airplane Hangar Wedding
We adore a princess wedding just as much as the next girl, but nothing beats a modern, contemporary wedding feel, especially when it is as spectacularly executed as this one-of-a-kind wedding in a private airplane hangar.
THE COUPLE
Elliot and Sydney are the definition of couple goals. They met as students in Provo, Utah, and after two and a half years, they were engaged in the most epic surprise proposal we think we’ve ever seen. Watch her face light up when she realizes that they aren’t really there to film a promotional video:
We want the Jazz bear at every proposal from now on! Elliot proposed on Febrary 7, and married his bride six weeks later in the Salt Lake City temple.
THE WEDDING
Amid glittering snowflakes, the couple sealed the deal in the Salt Lake City temple on March 29, 2019. Sydney brought the bridal glam all the way home with a chic long-sleeved Vera Wang gown, boasting a jaw-dropping trumpet flare. Elliot kept things simple and classic (but still extra-classy) in a sleek black Balenciaga suit. Sydney kept her color scheme muted and classic with an all-white rose bouquet for the temple grounds, but the hangar reception venue was where her modern-bride aesthetic came to life.
THE MOOD
“My mom and I both have a more contemporary design style,” says bride Sydney (Pedersen) Knox. “We saw a picture in a magazine with a concept and colors that we just loved, so we based my wedding design off of it!”
Bold reds. Towering details. Geometric lines and abundant florals. All of these elements created an event packed with edge and beauty beyond compare. Originally, Sydney wanted to keep the all-white palette for the reception, but said the large space looked empty without a little color. Aren’t we glad, that she decided to go bold! The private hangar provided a convenient and spacious location for the couple’s uniquely gorgeous celebration.
THE MENU
Sydney and her mom contracted family friends Marco and Aubrey Niccoli to cater the affair, and just trusted them to run wild! The reception had three different savory mains and a variety of desserts from Provo Bakery for guests to select from.
The savory items included charcuterie boards (with Creminelli meats and Beehive cheese, naturally) with olives and vegetable dips, grilled flank steak over radiccio and greens with citrus vinaigrette, and sous vide garlic chicken with lemon béchamel and pine nut sauce, with melon and prosciutto and pea shoots to accompany. And because you can’t forget dessert, Provo Bakery provided wild raspberry buttercream doughnuts, square ganache doughnuts, salted maple pecan and Meyer lemon cookies.
The reception also served three wedding cakes. Three! That’s a celebration we are on board four. Each cake was crafted by Flour & Flourish: the cake the bride & groom cut into was all white and classic, but the two on each end of the hangar were clad in ombre icing from orange to baby pink. Each cake had a different flavor on each tier: carrot cream cheese, chocolate, vanilla berry and crème brulée. We’ll take one of each, please and thank you!
THE CELEBRATION
While the Knox’s opted out of formal dancing, the evening was still full of happy tears and plenty of love to go around. Loved ones gave speeches, everyone toasted the happy couple, and at the end of the night Sydney and Elliot had the most epic getaway of all time – in a helicopter!
